Ground penetrating radar (GPR) is a very useful technology that can find all utilities, including the ones that traditional locators are unable to. As the unit is pushed across a site, it send pulses of energy into the earth, then reads the reflections as they are bounced back to the surface. GPR is used to find plastic gas lines, fiber-optic lines, underground storage tanks, terracotta lines, etc. GPR can also be used for concrete scanning.
